English Language Learners

Canadian Adventure

A Unique Opportunity to Learn the English Language

This English Language Learnrs Program (ELL) offers students (age between 13 – 18) a unique opportunity to learn the language by exploring many locations, interacting with people, and Canadian cultural communities.

The main goal of this educatio program is to move beyond a traditional class setting to learn the English language through a combination of real-life situations and activities across British Columbia and Alberta. This unique method allows students to better understand, practice, and memorize the English language while learning and experiencing the nature, culture, and different activities in Canada.

Our program is built to introduce students to the English language, acquire the skills necessary for day-to-day conversations, and help prepare them to attend an English language academic school. To achieve this goal, students will learn the English language through seven ELL Curriculum Learning Blocks.

7 ELL Curriculum Learning Blocks

Each of the seven blocks contains English language development levels. Students can join the program at any level, depending on their current language skills.

English Language Development Levels

English Language Level I
Non-English Proficiency Stage

Students, who are not ready to speak the language, are listening and beginning to respond.

English Language Level II
Receptive Language Stage

Students attend to hands-on tasks and demonstrations with more understanding, and initiate conversations using single words.

English Language Level III
Survival English Stage

Students begin speaking simple phrases and sentences, and expend their vocabulary.

English Language Level IV
Developing Fluency Stage

Students easily communicate their thoughts and participate in everyday conversations.

In addition to providing a unique way to learn the English language, the ESL Canadian Adventure Program is built to encourage personal growth by character development.

Character Goals

The English Lenguage Learners Canadian Adventure Program invites students to expand their comfort zones and connect to the beautiful nature and the diverse communities and people of British Columbia. This connection is not only the best way to build ELL abilities but additionally the program activities are designed to help students develop five key character traits. Under this program, students will learn to communicate in a compassionate, respectable and culturally literate way regardless of where they find themselves in the world. The character traits we focus on are:

  1. Increased competence & confidence in the English language
  2. Leadership
  3. Patience
  4. Courage
  5. Honesty

Personal skills are developed and supported by various outdoor activities, including skiing, mountain biking, camping, fishing, photography, hiking, rock climbing, sailing, and more.

Activities

Besides learning the English language and engaging in outdoor sports and activities, students will have the opportunity to learn practical skills such as journalism, video production, cooking, leadership, followership, photography, meal planning, expedition planning, search and rescue, and environmental stewardship.

Group & Safety

The maximum number of participants is ten students per group. Keeping the groups small allows us to interact with each student closely and provide them with strong support and genuine feedback. In general, this means that all of our students will have a stronger connection between the English language and the activities offered by this program.

Health and safety are always our priority. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we continue to implement policies to protect our participants, including the requirement of triple vaccinations and rapid tests before trips for staff.
