Program Description & Learning Outcomes

For this program the participants will go on a Ski Trip to Whistler/Blackcomb Mountains! Not only will participants have the opportunity to learn/improve their skiing/snowboarding skills, they will also get to try new winter activities like snowshoeing and ice fishing. Participants will also learn winter sport safety and route planning to keep them active, healthy and most importantly safe! Additionally, we will offer a full-week schedule for non-skiers so everyone can enjoy this winter break with fun and excitement.

Program Description & Learning Outcomes

In this program, the participants will learn how to build snow shelters called Quinzee. The participants will learn the basics of creating the structure and ensure it is sturdy.  The participants will also learn the essential survival skill of building a fire.  This lesson will include how to start and maintain the fire, different fire starting materials (advantages and disadvantages of the different materials), and how to use a fire (flint) striker.  Once the fire is made, the group will then prepare a delicious meal over the fire! 

  • Learn how to build and use a wood campfire for cooking
  • Learn how to use a small camp backpacking stove to cook
  • Being able to be outdoors and camp in the winter with good tasting meals

Program Description & Learning Outcomes

This program will take the participants out ice fishing! As the name implies, the group will drill a hole in the ice of a lake, and place their lines in the hole to catch fish.  The participants will learn the basics of ice fishing such as how to set up the rod, how to tie on the hook, and what bait to use.

The group will also learn basic winter wilderness first aid, giving them basic knowledge of survival techniques when out in cold weather.  For example, the participants will learn  how to stay warm (fire making), how to stay dry (shelter building), and how to survive in harsh environments.

  • Learn how to fish on a frozen lake
  • Learn how to conduct a search for a lost person in a winter forest
  • Learn how to perform first aid and evacuate injured person out of a winter forest

For this program, participants will go on a ski trip to Sun Peaks Mountain Resort!  The participants will learn/improve their abilities skiing or snowboarding.  The participants will also have the opportunity to go ice skating, snowshoeing, dog sledding and even snow biking!

Program Description & Learning Outcomes

Community service is a way for children to positively contribute to society and learn the benefits of helping others. 30 hours of community service is required in order to graduate high school in British Columbia.  In this program participants will do 30 hours of community service of their choice (e.g. ocean cleanup, environmental restoration, etc). The group will also learn about local indigenous culture, taught by leaders in the indingenous community.

Program Description & Learning Outcomes

For this program, participants will learn how/improve their abilities to sea kayak! The group will learn basic paddling techniques, and water safety.  The participants will also go on a sailboat and learn the fundamentals of sailing! This includes concepts such as the different parts of the sailboat, boat regulations/laws, along with learning how to steer and operate the boat. Finally, the group will learn how/improve their ability to stand up paddleboard (SUP).  The group will learn basic water safety skills on a SUP along with various balancing and paddling techniques.

  • Master paddling strokes and rescue methods for sea kayaking
